The Rising features works on canvas and steel born through activation and communion with the intensities of nature - snowstorms, tides, fire, seasonal emotion, the Taoist watercourse, dance, and the artist’s journeys on outer and inner roads.  In Enggist’s practice, artistic intention and the creative impulse of the wild merge  in a unified moment - an alchemy of ecological and spiritual expression. 

 

The steel works have been placed in tidal zones of the Pacific Ocean in the San Francisco Bay, as well as along the Hudson River, to bear the breath and dynamics of the sea in oxidized blooms.  American roots music flows through the work, spirituals and electric blues move as a great current upward through the spine of The Rising, hovering on the Mississippi River in molten violet, burning through the Odyssey to pursue the migrating enlightenings.  The path of the soul perhaps follows one's eyes, at once outward and inward, from material to inner light, sensing the new earth, rising.
